Native Instruments Absynth 6.1 Adds Audio Modulator, LFO Retrigger and 32 New Artist Presets

Native Instruments Absynth 6.1 Adds Audio Modulator, LFO Retrigger and 32 New Artist Presets

Quick Summary

Native Instruments updated Absynth 6 to version 6.1 on April 10, 2026, adding an Audio Modulator, LFO Retrigger, Auto Trigger and Undo/Redo to the semi-modular synth. The update is free for all Absynth 6 owners via Native Access and also ships 32 new artist presets and 100 additional factory samples. For DnB and UK dubstep producers, Absynth's hybrid granular-FM engine is one of the most capable tools available for building evolving atmospheres, spectral pads and modulated textural layers.

The Absynth 6 interface — version 6.1 adds the Audio Modulator, LFO Retrigger and Undo/Redo directly to the Assign page workflow.

Absynth 6.1 arrived on April 10, 2026, delivered through Native Access at no cost to anyone already on version 6. It is a substantive update that addresses several workflow gaps users flagged after the 6.0 release in December 2025.

Audio Modulator — envelope following inside the matrix

The most immediately useful addition for electronic producers is the Audio Modulator, which functions as an envelope follower inside Absynth's Assign page. Route any audio signal — a kick, a snare hit, a bassline — into the modulator, and its amplitude envelope becomes a live modulation source. Patch it to filter cutoff, oscillator pitch, effect mix or any other mappable parameter, and the dynamics of your drum pattern directly sculpt the synth in real time.

That kind of sidechain-into-synthesis routing previously required sending Absynth through an external envelope follower device; it now lives inside the instrument itself. For DnB, the applications are direct. A sub kick driving the resonance of a Cloud Filter on an atmospheric pad gives you movement locked to the beat without adding plugin overhead. A snare modulating the depth of the Aetherizer granular effect creates textural bursts that breathe with your groove rather than sitting statically on top of it.

LFO Retrigger and Auto Trigger

LFO Retrigger resets LFO phase at each note-on event. On patches where multiple LFOs run free, successive notes accumulate phase drift — the texture sounds alive in a sustained chord but loses coherence in a fast MIDI sequence. Retrigger locks each note to the same LFO starting position, which matters most for arpeggiated sequences, step-programmed leads and any sound that needs rhythmic consistency hit to hit.

Auto Trigger fires modulation sources automatically at a defined interval without waiting for incoming MIDI. On held drone textures and atmospheric layers — a staple of UK dubstep production — this sustains internal movement inside a note that may run for several bars, without needing to retrigger manually or program a workaround.

Undo/Redo and new preset content

Undo/Redo now sits in the Absynth interface header. On a synth with 68-point envelopes, three oscillator channels and a deep modulation matrix, the ability to step backwards through edits is not a minor convenience — it changes how freely you can explore a patch. Previously, an accidental overwrite on a modulation assignment meant rebuilding from memory or reverting to the last saved state.

The 32 new instrument presets come from Brian Eno, Mark Mothersbaugh, Manuka Honey, ex.sses and HEZEN. For UK dubstep producers, slow textural material in the Eno tradition is genuinely useful reference content at 140 BPM. The update also adds 100 new samples to the factory library, giving more raw material for the granular and wavetable oscillator modes without requiring external imports.

One practical note: presets saved in Absynth 6.1 will not open in version 6.0. Before sharing a project with a collaborator, confirm they are on the same version — or bounce the Absynth layer to audio first.

Absynth 6.1 is available now via Native Access. The full version of Absynth 6 is priced at $199 / €199, with an upgrade path from Absynth 2 through 5 at $99 / €99.

▸ What is new in Absynth 6.1

Audio Modulator

An envelope follower on the Assign page. Route a kick or percussion signal into the modulation matrix to drive filter cutoff, pitch or effect depth directly from your drum dynamics — sidechain-style routing built into the instrument.

LFO Retrigger

Resets LFO phase on each note-on event. Keeps rhythmic patches phase-locked to your MIDI pattern, removing drift between notes in fast sequences, arpeggios and step-programmed leads.

Auto Trigger

Fires modulation sources at a set interval without a note-on event. Sustains internal movement inside held textures and drone layers across multiple bars without retriggering notes.

Undo/Redo

Steps backwards and forwards through patch edits from the interface header. Removes the risk of losing complex modulation routing during deep sound design sessions on a synth with Absynth's depth.

32 New Artist Presets

Contributions from Brian Eno, Mark Mothersbaugh, Manuka Honey, ex.sses and HEZEN. New textural and atmospheric starting points with reference-quality sound design from established names.

100 New Factory Samples

Additional sample content for the granular and wavetable oscillator modes, expanding the built-in library without needing to import external material.
