Elektron Tonverk OS 1.3 — Free Wavetable Synthesis Added to the Polyphonic Sampler

Elektron Tonverk OS 1.3 — Free Wavetable Synthesis Added to the Polyphonic Sampler

Quick Summary

Elektron released OS 1.3 for the Tonverk polyphonic multisampler in late March 2026, adding Wavefinder — a dual-oscillator wavetable synthesis machine — as a free update. A stability patch, version 1.3.1, followed on April 9. For DnB and dubstep producers, this turns an already capable hardware sampler into a hybrid synthesis workstation capable of evolving pads, cutting leads, and complex textural layers — all sequenced through Elektron's deep parameter-lock engine.

Elektron has been shipping free firmware updates for Tonverk at a pace that keeps redefining what the box actually is. OS 1.1 added the Grainer granular engine. OS 1.2 brought new reverb and filter options. Now OS 1.3 introduces Wavefinder, and the character of the instrument shifts again — this time toward synthesis.

What Wavefinder Actually Does

Wavefinder is a dual-oscillator wavetable machine that slots into Tonverk's source machine architecture alongside the existing sample players and Grainer. Each oscillator runs independently, and you blend them using position and level controls. Tune and detune are on hand for width, and Elektron includes 12 wavetable animations to introduce movement and modulation over time. You can also import your own wavetables from the SD card, which opens the door to custom sound design that sits entirely outside the factory palette.

The OS package ships with 75 wavetables created by Elektron staff, covering enough ground to get started immediately. That said, the real value for producers is the ability to drop in custom wavetables — any sub-bass waveform shapes, reese foundation tones, or evolving pads you build externally can now be loaded directly into a hardware sequencer with 256-step per-track resolution and full parameter lock support.

Why This Matters for Hardware-Focused DnB Producers

Tonverk's architecture — eight stereo audio tracks, four bus tracks, three send tracks and a master — means Wavefinder oscillators are not isolated sound sources. They feed through the same effects chain as your sampled material, so you can run a wavetable bass through the Degrader bit-crusher, parallel compress it on a bus, and sequence the whole thing alongside sampled breaks and one-shots in a single pattern. That kind of consolidated, DAW-free routing is difficult to replicate in a software session without significant setup overhead.

The subtrack choke system also received an update in 1.3. Subtracks can now be assigned to silence each other on trigger — a direct parallel to the open/closed hi-hat choke logic every drum programmer relies on. In a Subtracks machine loaded with percussion hits, this means tighter rhythmic structures with no manual muting required. The arpeggiator gained parameter lock support too, so arp behaviour can now be modulated differently on each step of a sequence.

OS 1.3.1, released April 9, addresses stability issues including sample browser display bugs, MIDI NRPNs not reaching full parameter range, and incorrect pitch bend default values. If you updated to 1.3.0 on launch, grab 1.3.1 now. Both updates are free from the Elektron support downloads page.

► OS 1.3 Key Additions at a Glance

Wavefinder

A new dual-oscillator wavetable machine. Pick wavetables, blend two independent oscillators, apply tune and detune, and modulate position using 12 built-in animations. Custom wavetables load via SD card.

75 Factory Wavetables

Elektron ship a free batch of 75 wavetables with the OS package. These need to be manually placed on your SD card before Wavefinder can access them — instructions are included in the download.

Subtrack Chokes

Each Subtrack can now be set to immediately silence other Subtracks on trigger, enabling proper drum choke logic — essential for tight hi-hat and percussion programming in DnB patterns.

Arp Parameter Locks

Arpeggiator settings can now be parameter-locked per step, and changes made in Live Recording mode are captured directly into the sequence. Arp pages can also be randomised on demand.

Page Looping

Hold the page button in grid recording mode, press arrow up or down, then select a page via the trigs to loop a specific section of a longer pattern — useful for building variation within extended sequences.

1.3.1 Stability Patch

Released April 9, 2026. Fixes include MIDI NRPN parameter range issues, incorrect pitch bend defaults, sample browser display bugs, and several edge cases that could cause the device to become unresponsive.
